17th Course: "Astro & Particle Physics: From Underground to Outer Space"
11-18 July 2010
Ettore Majorana Centre
Erice, Sicily, Italy
Overview: Particle physicists and astrophysicists both attempt to develop a deep understanding of the physical world, but from very different perspectives -- experimental/observational and theoretical. In recent years it has become apparent that there is developing a convergence of astro and particle physics to investigate the most profound questions in modern physics and cosmology: the nature of dark matter, the origin of mass, dark energy, physics beyond the standard model and the origin of the universe. This course of the ISCRA will bring together specialists in a number of these fields to introduce the participants to the content, techniques and outcomes from current and future experimental and theoretical investigation, thereby providing a balanced, unified view of the role of particle and astro physics. This course continues the tradition of the ISCRA to foster the training of young scientists to be at the forefront of current research.
